What is the CTET Exam?

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducts the CTET, or Central Teacher Eligibility Test, as a national examination.The purpose of this exam is to see if applicants are qualified to be appointed as teachers in government schools. CTET is held twice a year and is for educators who wish to teach students in grades 1 to 8. There are two different CTET exam types: Paper 1 and Paper 2. Candidates who want to teach grades 1-5 are required to take Paper 1. Candidates who want to teach grades 5-8 show up for paper 2. And if you apply for both paper 1 & paper 2, then you are eligible to teach classes 1 - 8. In this blog, we will cover all details related to the CTET exam such as CTET exam date, CTET notification 2023, CTET online form date, syllabus, passing marks, certificate, eligibility, analytical charts, books and more.

CTET 2023 Notification

Recently, the CTET 2023 notification has been released by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Eligible candidates can apply online from 27th April from the official website @ctet.nic.in. The CTET exam is held two times a year to provide the certificate for the candidates who want to pursue teaching jobs at government institutions. CTET, or Central Teacher Eligibility Test, is a national-level examination administered by CBSE to determine candidates' eligibility for teaching positions in schools throughout India. It takes place twice a year, usually in July and December.

CTET 2023 Eligibility

Only candidates with permanent Indian citizenship are eligible to apply for this exam. Students from Nepal and Bhutan can also apply. Candidates must meet the following eligibility requirements to apply for the CTET 2023 Exam:

CTET 2023 Revised Eligibility Criteria

  • The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has updated the eligibility requirements for candidates pursuing Teacher Training Courses (TTC).
  • According to NCTE, candidates who have been admitted and are enrolled in any Teacher Training Course (TTC) are considered "Pursuing" and are eligible to apply for the TET Examination.
  • Candidates whose appointments are being challenged were eligible to take the TET exam while enrolled in a Teacher Training Course (TTC).
  • As previously stated, the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) regulations for eligibility criteria will be followed.
  • Minimum qualifications laid down in the Recruitment Rules for Teachers by the Appropriate Government where the school is located or the Recruitment Rules for Teachers of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangthan or Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti. Post-Graduation candidate with a minimum 55% marks or equivalent grade and three-year integrated B.Ed.-M.Ed.
  • The Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) does not imply that the candidate's eligibility for recruitment has been verified.
  • The Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) confers no right of appointment on the candidate.
  • The final eligibility for any teaching recruitment by the relevant authority will be verified.

CTET 2023 Age limit

To be eligible for CTET, candidates must be at least 17 years old. There is no upper age limit for CTET applicants. A candidate may retake the CTET exam as many times as he or she would like.

CTET 2023 Educational Qualification

The Educational Qualifications Eligibility for both CTET Paper 1 and Paper 2 are given below:

  • Candidates must have cleared or still pursuing the final year of 2 years Diploma in Elementary Education (with a minimum of 50% marks) from a recognized University/Institution. OR
  • Applicants must have cleared or still pursuing the final year of 2 years Diploma in Elementary Education (with a minimum of 45% marks) in accordance with the NCTE, Regulations, 2002. OR
  • Aspirants must have cleared or still pursuing the final year of 4 years of a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed) from a recognized University/Institution (with at least 50% marks). OR
  • Candidates must have cleared or still pursuing the final year of 2 years Diploma in Special Education(with at least 50% marks) from a recognized University/Institution. OR
  • Candidates must have cleared the Graduation (with at least 50% marks) and Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) from a recognized University/Institution.
Classes 6 to 8
  • Candidates must have cleared the Graduation and also must have cleared or still pursuing the final year of 2 years Diploma in Elementary Education from a recognized University/Institution. OR
  • Candidates must have cleared the Graduation (with minimum 50% marks) and passed or appeared in the first year of Bachelor in Education (B.Ed) from a recognized University/Institution. OR
  • Candidates must have cleared the Graduation (with a minimum of 45% marks) and passed or appeared in 1 year of bachelor’s Degree in Education (B.Ed), in accordance with the NCTE Regulations in Education (B.Ed). OR
  • Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and Candidates must have cleared the Graduation of a 4-year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.EI.Ed). OR
  • Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and Candidates must have cleared the Graduation of 4-year B.A/B.Sc.Ed or B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed. OR
  • Graduation with at least 50% marks and Candidates must have cleared or appeared in 1-year B.Ed. (Special Education). OR
  • Candidates must have cleared the Graduation in B.Ed. Programs recognized by the NCTE are eligible to appear in TET/CTET.

CTET 2023 Application form

The CTET 2023 Application form is now available on the official website. To avoid a last-minute rush, candidates must carefully fill out and submit their applications before the deadline of May 26, 2023. To avoid disqualification, candidates must ensure that their online applications are correct and complete.

CTET 2023 Apply online

To kickstart your career as a government teacher, aspirants must first complete the CTET application online process. On the official website, the application form will be available. Candidates must have their own email address and a personal phone number, both of which will be required for registration and sending alert messages throughout the process. To fill out the application form, the candidate must follow the steps outlined below:
  • Step 1: Visit CTET exam's official website.
  • Step 2: Enter all the necessary details as required.
  • Step 3: Submit the scanned photos and signature. 
  • Step 4: Pay the registration fees. 
  • Step 5: Download your CTET 2023 application form.    

CTET 2023 Certificate Validity

With effect from 2011, the validity period of the TET - Teachers Eligibility Test qualifying certificate has been extended from 7 years to lifetime. There is no limit to the number of attempts a person can make to obtain a CTET Certificate. A person who has passed the CTET Exam may retake it in order to improve his or her score. As a result, the CTET Certificate Validity is indefinite. The CTET Certificate's validity period has been extended indefinitely.

CTET 2023 Exam Pattern

All question types will be MCQs. Paper 1 will be for candidates applying for primary teacher while paper 2 will be for upper primary teacher. The time duration is of two hours and thirty minutes in which the candidate has to solve 150 multiple choice questions (MCQs).

CTET 2023 Syllabus

According to the official announcement, the curriculum includes Child Development & Pedagogy, Language, Mathematics and Science, Environment Science, and Social Sciences. The CTET syllabus for Paper 1 and Paper 2 is different. Candidates must ensure that they follow the syllabus of the paper they are appearing. The official notification describes the intended syllabus but does not go into detail about topics and sections. CTET Exam 2023 Cutoff

Candidates who take the exam will be given a Marks Statement. Candidates who receive 60% (General) or higher will be given a marks statement and an eligibility certificate. The CBSE announces CTET Cut off Marks every year. The exam is divided into two papers. Paper 1 is for candidates who want to be teachers in grades 1–5, and Paper 2 is for candidates who want to be teachers in grades 6–8. Each paper is worth 150 points. Candidates with marks equal to or greater than 90 will be considered qualified.

Ans. The official notification for the CTET July 2023 exam has been released on 27th April 2023.
Q2. Is B.Ed necessary for CTET exam?
Ans. Yes. As per the NCTE, the minimum qualification for a person to be eligible for CTET is to have graduated with at least 45-50 percent marks and teach professional courses like B.El.Ed/ D.Ed/ B.Ed/ B.Ed (Special Education).
Q3. How many attempts are there for CTET exam?
Ans. No restriction on number of attempts. A person can attempt as many times as necessary to acquire the CTET Certificate; there is no cap on this. A candidate who has already passed the CTET may retake it to increase their score.
