The application form for the 2023-2024 NMMS Scholarship is published by the SCERTs in each state. The scholarship programme provides financial assistance of Rs 12,000/- to selected students from class 9 to 12. Several states, including Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, Nagaland, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, West Bengal and others, will release NMMS application forms in October 2023. Depending on the state or UT, the dates for submission of NMMS forms may vary.

The National Means-Cum-Merit Scholarship (राष्ट्रीय आर्थिक दुर्बल घटक विद्यार्थ्यांसाठी शिष्यवृत्ती योजना परीक्षा (NMMS)) is a federally funded scholarship programme. It is run by the Department of School Education and Literacy of the Ministry of Human Resource Development with the aim of providing financial assistance to deserving students from economically weaker sections of society. NMMS encourages disadvantaged students to continue their studies at the secondary level by providing a scholarship of INR 12,000 per year. Every year, this MCM scholarship is announced in November, and nearly 100,000 scholarships are awarded to talented students.

Exclusively designed for deserving and underprivileged students of India, the MCM scholarship scheme requires all applicants to meet the specified eligibility criteria mentioned below in order to qualify for the selection test, which determines the recipients of the scholarship. Prospective applicants for the MCM scholarship must be enrolled as regular students in the 9th grade, having successfully completed 8th grade with a minimum score of 55% or equivalent grades. Applicants must be pursuing their education in government, local bodies, or government-aided schools. To maintain scholarships throughout their higher secondary education, candidates must achieve a minimum of 60% marks in their 10th-grade board examination. In order to retain the scholarship in the 12th grade, scholarship awardees must clear the 11th grade on their first attempt, achieving a score of at least 55% or equivalent. Students belonging to the SC/ST category are granted a 5% relaxation in the required marks. The annual family income of the candidates should not exceed INR 1.5 Lakh. Additionally, students enrolled in NVS, KVS, Sainik schools, and private schools are ineligible to apply for the MCM scholarship.

Despite being a scholarship scheme initiated by the Central Government, the NMMS scholarship selection test is independently conducted by each State/UT specifically for their students. The test comprises two components: the Mental Ability Test (MAT) and the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), with guidelines established by the NCERT. Each test must be completed within a maximum time frame of 90 minutes, although students with special abilities are granted additional time as required. Selection Criteria for NMMS Scholarship-

This assessment evaluates students' reasoning skills and critical thinking abilities, featuring a set of 90 multiple-choice questions. The questions primarily cover topics such as analogy, classification, numerical series, pattern perception, hidden figures, and more.

The SAT consists of 90 multiple-choice questions. The syllabus for the SAT encompasses subjects such as science, social studies, and mathematics, as per the curriculum of classes 7 and 8.

Applicants for the NMMS Scholarship for class 8 students are required to participate in a written test. It is essential for these students to review the exam pattern of NMMS in order to gain a comprehensive understanding of the test.
