What is UGC NET?

University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) or NTA UGC NET is a national-level exam conducted board in order to determine the eligibility level of candidates for only Assistant Professor or both Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Assistant Professor posts in Indian universities and colleges. The UGC NET 2023 exam will cover 83 different subjects in total. 81 subjects were available for the NTA UGC NET exam until 2021. The requirements for the UGC NET syllabus are established by the University Grants Commission and differ for each of the 83 subjects. Up until June 2018, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) handled NET administration on behalf of UGC. However, the National Testing Agency (NTA) started giving the UGC NET exam starting in December 2018.

UGC, NTA administers exams in 83 different subject areas to determine applicants' eligibility for assistant professor positions, junior research fellowship awards, or both. 

UGC NET  Eligibility Criteria 2023

UGC NET Age Limit 2023:

• JRF : Maximum Age : 31 Years
• NET : No Age Limit

•  For reserved category Relaxation of 5 years in age criteria is given by candidates.

UGC NET Educational Qualification 2023:

• Candidates should have completed their post-graduation from a UGC-recognised college/university.
• A relaxation of five per cent in educational qualification is given to reserved category candidates.
• Candidates who have cleared State Eligibility Test (SET) before June 1, 2002, are exempted from taking the UGC NET exam.
