SSC CGL Eligibility Criteria 2026

There are four important criteria that a candidate must fulfill to be eligible for the SSC CGL 2026 exam. All the parameters are given below:

SSC CGL 2026 Citizenship:

A candidate must be either:

• a citizen of India, or
• a subject of Nepal, or
• a subject of Bhutan, or
• a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

There is an age relaxation as per the age limit for the SSC CGL criteria for the reserved sections of the candidates. The candidates can go through the SSC CGL Age Relaxation from the table given below.

There are different sets of age limits for different posts in the SSC CGL Exam 2026. The SSC has decided to increase the age limit for SSC CGL 2026 recruitment, though the age varies by post. The minimum age limit is 18 years old, and the maximum age limit is 32 years old.

SSC CGL Education Qualification 2026

The educational qualification for the SSC CGL exam 2026 criteria are as follows:

SSC CGL 2026 Physical Fitness Requirements:

In addition to the above, certain Physical Standards are required for Inspectors (Central Excise/Examiner/Preventive Officer), Sub-Inspectors in the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation), and Sub-Inspectors in the NIA (National Investigation Agency).

SSC CGL Selection Process 2026

Candidates who are looking to take or planning to take the SSC CGL must go through the SSC CGL Selection Process 2026 examination. They will benefit from understanding the selection process as they prepare for their exams. As per the SSC CGL selection process 2026, based on their rank, they will get their respective posts available under the SSC CGL exam 2026.

• Tier-I: Computer-Based Examination
• Tier-II: Computer-Based Examination

• Tier II will include conducting Paper-I, Paper-II, and Paper-III in separate shift(s)/ day(s).
• Paper-I is required for all positions, whereas Paper-II is only for candidates who apply for the position of Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) in the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation and are shortlisted in Tier-I.
• Only those candidates who were shortlisted in Tier-I for Paper-III, i.e. for the positions of Assistant Audit Officer/ Assistant Accounts Officer, will be eligible to take Paper-III.
• On the same day, Paper I will be held in two sessions: Session I and Session II. Session I will consist of running Sections I and II, as well as Module I of Section III. Module II of Section III will be conducted during Session II. As a result, Session I will last 2 hours and 15 minutes, while Session II will last only 15 minutes.

SSC CGL Exam Pattern for Tier 1 2026

The exam pattern for SSC CGL 2026 Tier 1 is listed below:

The detailed exam pattern is provided below:

• Note-A: There will be a negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer in Section-I, Section-II, and Module-I of Section-III of Paper-I and of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer in Paper-II and Paper-III.
• Note-B: Candidates eligible for scribe will get an extra 20 minutes for 1 hour time. 
• Note-C: Paper-I is compulsory for all posts. Paper II is for only the JSO(Junior Statistical Officer). Post and Paper III are for only the Assistant Account Officer and Assistant Audit Officer.
•  Note-D: Tier-II will consist of objective-type, Multiple-choice questions except for the DEST Test.

• Module II of Section III of Paper I will include conducting a Data Entry Speed Test (DEST) for a duration of 15 minutes in Session II on the same day. 
• The “Data Entry Speed Test” (DEST) Skill Test will be conducted for a passage of about 2000 (two thousand) key depressions for a duration of 15 (fifteen) minutes. 
• DEST will be mandatory for all the posts; however, it will be qualifying in nature. It will be mandatory for the candidates to qualify for all the sections of Paper-I.
